Collaboration between EWTDS and Karolinska Institut Invitation to an International Training course for Medical Review Officers
Training course for Medical Review Officers (MROs)
Stockholm, Sweden April 07-08, 2005

This is a two-day training-seminar for medical doctors and certified nurses who are working with drug prevention and/or drug testing program at workplaces. The training seminar is based on a Swedish three-day course that has been given yearly since1995. The seminar will describe a comprehensive drug prevention model including written policy, education, training, drug testing and rehabilitation. In this model the MRO (Medical Review Officer) will have a key function of making the determination as to the validity of drug testing. The prime directive of the MRO is to assess and determine the accuracy of a positive test result. Additional function of the MRO is to provide for the privacy and confidentiality of the employee's personal medical history during course of reviewing drug test results.
The course will cover occurrence of drug abuse in the society, pharmacology of illicit drugs, and motives for the employer and employee of a comprehensive prevention program, treatment models, legal aspects, laboratory drug testing, quality assurance, and the role of the MRO.
