Workplace Drug Testing edited by Alain Verstraete

Published by Pharmaceutical Press

CoverSociety statement:

As the current President of the EWDTS I would like to share with you the outcomes of our efforts over the past few years, when Alain Verstraete agreed to edit a book on Workplace Drug Testing. Board members and invited individuals have over time completed their chapters resulting in the publication Workplace Drug Testing. Firstly, the Society would like to thank Alain for successfully managing this project. As busy people it is sometimes easy to forget about deadlines and commitments. Secondly, to the contributors from Europe and further away who shared the knowledge and real life experiences, and lastly our thanks to the Pharmaceutical Press for supporting Alain, and the professional finish to the manuscripts.

The target audience has always been occupational health, legal and human resource professionals, clinical and forensic toxicologists, and drug counselling and treatment providers. To that effect the Society hopes that you will find it informative in an easy to read manner.

The Society would welcome any comments and these can be emailed to any board member for discussion.

‘For those who are interested in workplace drug testing, or who are about to set up such a system, this is the book for you. With clear explanations of the effects of drugs on human performance and the need for such testing, the book goes on to give the regulatory aspects and how to set policies. Then follows chapters on how to take samples, analyse them and interpret the results. International mandatory guidelines are fully explained and compared. It concludes with examples of case studies and how different countries test for drugs.
