Turin 2015

Welcome message

“Without Italy, Turin would be more or less the same.
But without Turin, Italy would be very different”

Umberto Eco

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

In my role as President of the European Workplace Drug Testing Society and on behalf of the 10th Symposium Conference Committee, I am delighted to welcome you in Turin, a city with a unique history, charm and elegance. The Conference is held inside the Lingotto building, which once housed an automobile factory built by Fiat and today still represents an iconic site for the workplace.

This year we have an exciting and varied Scientific Program, with five sessions and 27 speakers coming from Europe, United States and Australia. Topics will cover drug testing in different countries and different scenarios, inevitably focusing on the NPS phenomenon, and the last developments in the testing field, with special attention to new technologies. Then, the workplace testing in delicate sectors such aviation, rail system, road safety, will be largely discussed. Across the two days, special focus will be given to some fundamental aspects of a legally valid test, namely the sample collection and the chain of custody. And finally, we put together a tremendous session to unmask some of the most recurrent myths about drug testing.

For the first time this year, EWDTS is introducing the Young Scientist Award to promote new innovation from young scientists in the field of workplace drug and alcohol testing. Four high quality submissions were shortlisted for voting from members and the winner will be presenting in Turin. But the YS award was not the only innovation that we planned: an on-purpose developed app is available for the conference, showing the complete panel of presentations and speakers, the list of sponsors, the places of interest during your stay in Turin and other useful tips and tools. I would like to thank everybody who has worked to make our conference successful. The Board Members, who daily offer their service to EWDTS despite a full-time demanding job. Michael Stallard, who has tirelessly organized one unique Scientific Program. Our Gold and Silver sponsors and our partners, without whom this conference would not be possible. And last but not least, Gianpaolo Brusini, our amazingly responsive webmaster (and friend).

Finally, a great conference is not remembered as such without an attractive Social Program. Turin is the city of the aperitivo, the art of drinking and eating before you start eating and drinking. The NH Hotels are providing the spaces for the Welcome and the Farewell cocktails, while, for the best tries of the Italian taste, we are waiting all of you on Thursday night on the side of River Po.

We promise you a great time, so let’s get started!
